Barrow suffered a damaging defeat in their battle for an automatic League Two promotion place.
They were beaten 2-1 at home by the bottom side Forest Green as their new
Relegation-threatened Rovers were ending a sequence of 15 games without a win to give them hope of avoiding the return to non-League.
The visitors had shocked the Holker Street faithful by taking a 21st minute lead through Kyle McAllister who got on the end of a Fankaty Dabo cross and his header was deflected past keeper Paul Farman.
The lead lasted just eight minutes before transfer deadline recruit Cole Stockton notched his second goal for the Bluebirds. He latched onto a misplaced back pass and lobbed home from 25 yards.
Forest Green were not playing like a basement side and Barrow keeper Farman kept his side in the game with good stops to deny McAllister and Christian Doidge.
It was Manny Osadebe who put the visitors back in front after 56 minutes when he got lucky as an attempted back pass rebounded kindly to him and he made no mistake with the shot.
Barrow were close to an equaliser when Stockton fired a long-range effort against the bar but manager Pete Wild was left dismayed at a second successive defeat to slip to fifth in the table.
