A rare city derby between Creighton and Carlisle proved to be one to remember at Sycamore Lane.
The opportunity was used to raise money for the MND charity My Name’5 Doddie, and the club was packed with former players from both teams.
On such an occasion the result is really secondary but, already assured of the Counties 1 Cumbria title, Carlisle won 24-6.
That represented a fine effort by Creighton after Carlisle dominated the first half playing with the wind at their backs.
Despite a determined defensive effort by Creighton, the visitors ran in three tries from Nathan Greenhow, Lloyd Clark and Jake Whittaker. A conversion by Robbie James made the score at the break 17-0.
As Carlisle have already won the Cumbria League with three fixtures remaining there was an expectation that they would pull further away in the second half.
However, the home side cleverly used the elements to chip away at the deficit, with long range penalties from George Dudley and Keenan Foster.
At 17-6 another score from Creighton would have made for a nail-biting finale.
However, it was not to be as the visitors broke away in the final minute to score a final try by James, who also nailed the conversion.
Special mention went to Creighton number 8 Scott Davidson who dealt admirably at the base of the scrum that was always under pressure, while veteran prop Matt Liddle was playing his final home game and was applauded from the field by both sides.
