Jazz Callon is the latest addition to the Barrow Raiders Ladies squad ahead of the 2024 Betfred Women’s Super League season.
The 26-year-old back impressed head coach Amanda Wilkinson during the club’s open trials at the end of November.
A relative newcomer to the sport, Barrow-born will hope to continue developing her skills within the Raiders Ladies first team ahead of their opening friendly this Sunday against Huddersfield Giants Women.
Despite being from a rugby league-mad family, Callon only started playing the sport a year ago. During her younger days she found a passion for gymnastics, and even went on to represent Great Britain at EuroGym in Denmark at the age of 12.
“I can’t wait to give my all for the team and develop into a more confident player, with help from Amanda and the rest of the girls,” Callon said.
“As a Cumbrian, I feel proud to play for Barrow in the Women’s Super League in 2024, representing the area and inspiring other women to get involved with rugby league and sport in general.
“For me, rugby and being part of a team helps me switch off from work, allowing me to do something completely different. It’s something I can put my all into and feel proud while doing it.”
Barrow Ladies head coach Amanda Wilkinson said: “Jazz has impressed us with her attitude, commitment and general ethos to train.
“She is a great team player and has fitted into the squad so quickly. She’s only new to the game, but I’m looking forward to watching her grow in confidence as she develops her skills.”ReplyReply allForward
