Barrow Raiders have announced that their women’s reserve team will play this coming season as Barrow and District Raiders.
Discussions were held with all eight of their community clubs prior to the reserves preparing to play in League 2 of the women’s league.
All eight community clubs – Roose Pioneers, Barrow Island, Walney Central, Dalton, Ulverston, Hindpool, Millom and Askam have offered to host home league games, and training sessions are planned at those clubs in a bid to increase participation.
Many of these clubs are providing touch rugby opportunities, and this will provide a pathway for players to play the contact game.
A Raiders spokesman said: “Hopefully some will continue the journey to our Women’s Super League team, who are preparing for their debut season in the top division of women’s rugby league in the UK.”
