Maryport under-9s against Broughton Red Rose.

Described as a chip off the old block Arlo Scholey looks like following in the footsteps of his father.

Stevie Scholey is a respected skipper for Workington Town in professional rugby league.

Young Arlo picked-up a man of the match award for Maryport Under-8s in their weekend game against Broughton Red Rose.

His Maryport coach Simon Pattinson said: “Arlo is definitely one to watch for the future. He’s a very talented young kid.

“We had a very good game at Broughton and there were some good players on view, so the future looks very bright for both clubs.

“Our under-9s also played against Broughton and both teams scored some fantastic tries and showed up well in defence.”

Maryport and Derwent Park Rangers Under-6s

It was another busy weekend for Maryport – who were the West Cumbria Youth League’s club of the year for 2023 – with Under-6s and under-7s also in action.

The Under-6s played a tag game as they learn the ropes against the newly-formed Derwent Park Rangers while the under-7s were in action against neighbours Glasson Rangers.

“I’m encouraged to see youngsters enjoying themselves and finishing games with smiles on their faces. There are some very promising young players around the clubs,” said Pattinson.

Opus Wilson, Paddy Pattinson and Joseph Lodge picked up man of the match nominations for Maryport Under-7s.
