Cumberland FA will be staging two County Under-16s finals this weekend at Penrith and Workington.
These age group finals were brought forward to March a number of years ago to support participating players, as they will be concentrating on their exams during the traditional County Cup Final period later in the season.
Due to venue availability, this season the County Cup Finals will be hosted by two clubs with the matches kicking off at the same time.
Penrith AFC have agreed to host the Under-16 Mixed County Cup Final, with the Girls Under-16 Final hosted by Workington AFC.
As part of the County FA’s partnership with the British Heart Foundation, Cumberland FA are raising vital funds for ground-breaking research and all donations made at the County Cup finals will be donated.
The Under-16 Girls County Final between Carlisle Lionesses and Whitehaven will be played at Workington’s Borough Park on Sunday, kick-off 2pm.
The referee will be Adam Sowden and his assistants – Benjamin Carini and Jacob Moore, with the fourth official Lillias Hodgson.
With both teams playing in the Andrea Buggy Women’s Under-16 League, Sunday’s final promises to be an exciting game with Whitehaven this week being crowned Spring Premier Champions.
Meanwhile the Under-16s Mixed County Cup final will be played at Penrith’s Frenchfield on Sunday, also with a 2pm kick-off and in opposition will be Whitehaven Yellow and Workington Juniors Blacks.
The match official will be Leigh Musgrave with his assistants Aaron Roberts and Rowan Johnstone. The fourth official is David Colombi.
With both teams having won league titles at various age groups in the past and the teams currently sitting second and third in the West Cumbria Youth League, an exciting final is in prospect.
