Two of Workington Reds’ modern greats have announced that they will be retiring at the end of the season.
Conor Tinnion and Scott Allison have confirmed what the fans have been dreading for most of the current campaign that this will be the last in Workington colours.
Both have given admirable service to the club over many years, and both have been turning out when not fully fit because of old injuries.
Both have admitted they don’t feel their bodies can stand another testing season of wear and tear. Their departure follows the mid-season retirement announcement of a third Reds stalwart Dan Wordsworth.
They will say their goodbyes at the final game of the season on April 27 against Guiseley and are sure to get a fine send-off.
It’s 14 years since Tinnion joined the Reds after being released by Carlisle United and he made his debut near the end of the 2009/10 season.
Since then he has played in 392 competitive games for the club, 120 as skipper and he has scored 75 goals.
He told the club website: “I would like to thank my team-mates over the years – too many to name – but I have been lucky to play with some great players and shared some great times with them on and off the pitch.
“Also, I’m massively grateful to the fans and volunteers at the club who are the reason that Workington Reds exists and have given me the chance to play for all these years.
“There have obviously been some low points but it is all part of it and I genuinely wouldn’t change a thing. I feel very fortunate to have played for the club for so long and, again, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been there with me over the last 14 years.”
Allison joined Reds from Penrith in the club’s final season in National Conference North (2013) so is coming to the end of 11 eventful years with the Borough Park club.
Allison has scored 155 goals in his Reds career, the third highest total in the club’s history.
He said: “I would like to say a huge thank-you at Workington Reds for my time there. It’s been an absolute pleasure representing this football club for so many years and creating so many special memories.
“The play-off hat-trick at Blyth Spartans; the FA Trophy winner against Hartlepool United and winning promotion last season were my three favourite moments.”
