Three of Workington Reds travelling players will not be back for the 2024/25 season.
Bobby Carroll, Lewis Reilly and Aidy Roxburgh are leaving as new manager Mark Fell starts putting together his squad.
Carroll was young player of the year in his first season, but suffered a few injury interruptions this time round.
Reilly, who has also been with the Reds for two years, missed most of the campaign after suffering a serious ankle injury early on.
Roxburgh was signed by Danny Grainger last summer and he, too, has missed a fair bit of the season through injuries.
Nine players have been offered new deals or are in negotiations for next season. Eight of them are county-based with Finlay Wallbank the only travelling man among them.
The nine are Jim Atkinson, Ceiran Casson, Dav Symington, Danny Eccles, Brad Hubbold, Jordan Little, Greg McCaragher, Steven Rigg and Finlay Wallbank.
Reds, of course, have seen three stalwarts retire after the last League game on Saturday – Conor Tinnion, Scott Allison and Sam Smith – while Jamie Devitt had also retired before joining Grainger’s staff on the touchline.
Manager Fell has finally eased into the manager’s chair at Borough Park two months after being selected to replace the departing Danny Grainger.
The former Lancaster City boss has been attending Reds matches, assessing the squad he is going to inherit following Grainger’s farewell at Borough Park on Saturday.
He said: “It’s going to be a rebuilding job with players retiring and others going back to their parent clubs.
“We will obviously miss the senior players who are retiring but I’m happy enough with the players that are left. I have spoken to them all now.
“I also have a long list of players that we can try and bring into the club before next season.”
Reds new manager has also been working on a number of pre-season fixtures which will include the usual mix of local games such as the traditional start against Whitehaven for the Shaun Hocking Memorial Trophy.
Carlisle United, Penrith and Holker Old Boys will also be pencilled into the warm-up programme.
He is hoping he may be able to fix up a game against a Newcastle United side, while Clitheroe are a possibility for the final pre-season game.
Fell added: “That last Saturday is difficult to find opponents because everyone else apart from the NPL starts a week earlier on August 3.”
The NPL Premier Division will be losing either big spending Macclesfield or Marine as they won through the semi-final games in mid-week.
Macclesfield beat Worksop Town 3-1 while Marie triumphed 1-0 against Warrington Rylands and the pair will meet on Bank Holiday Monday to see who joins Radcliffe in National North next season.
