Workington Meteors were also in action in Glasgow last night after the main meeting and they beat the Ashfield Giants 17-12.

Unfortunately Casper Kluczniak picked up an injury and couldn’t take part in the meeting and missed the return fixture at Northside.

Ashfield were also affected as 125cc rider Oliver Binns also picked up an injury during the week and was missing leaving. It meant the 125cc races on the card were one against one as both teams were unable to find a guest.

Highlights include heat three in the 500ccs which saw Laylen Richardson make an electric start and he looked set to take his first win. But Billy Budd, in trying to catch Ben Rathbone took a tumble and the race was red flagged on the third lap.

Unfortunately, the referee declared a rerun with three riders only, and after a repeat start from Laylen with Ben backing him up it looked set to be a 5-1 to the Meteors. However, an excellent comeback ride from the youngest of the Pijper brothers, Stene, made it a share of the spoils with a 3-3.

Heat five saw Rathbone jump out the start and pick up a heat win, looking very comfortable the whole race.

In the 125cc, lone Meteor Charlie Luckman showed once again his improvements this season by racing to his first maximum picking up three wins. This was only the second time Luckman had seen the Ashfield track, but he rode with a lot of confidence and produced some excellent speed and style.

Team Manager James Wilson said: “I’m really proud of the boys. Laylen has been improving his starts and I feel his first win is coming very soon.

“Ben, as always, provided a classy performance rounding off the night with a solid heat win, but Charlie was on fire tonight. I’m really impressed with the progression he has made with us this season and I am looking forward to watching him keep improving week after week.

”It was another victory on the road and it makes it three wins out of three for us this season. I couldn’t be prouder of the whole team.”
