Awards handed out to top Carlisle rugby players

Tyler Callaghan picked up two awards for performances in the first team.

Counties 1 Cumbria League champions Carlisle have held their presentation evening when the winners’ trophy was handed over to skipper Josh Holmes.

Cumbria CB Chairman Neil Marston and former RFU President John Owen were the special guests on the night and handed out the awards between them.

The awards were presented to Women’s, Colt’s and Men’s sections by John, while Neil presented the trophy for winning the Cumbria League.

Women’s winners

  • Most Improved Player: Emma Taylor
  • Coaches’ Player: Sarah Smyth
  • Players’ Player : Gina Barnes.
  • 50 appearances: Kim Fitzmaurice and Bethan Lloyd
  • 100 appearances: Laura Cunningham, Steph Musgrave, Phillipa Chadwick and Sam Meakin.
  • Sam, who is stepping down as women’s coach, also received a framed shirt from the Cougars, and was awarded the Mike Bewley award in recognition of her services to rugby.

Colts winners

  • Most Improved Player: James Kidd.
  • Coaches Player: Joseph Batty
  • Players’ Player: Jake Dawson
Jake Dawson, currently coping with a broken arm, was players’ player with the Colts. John Owen made the presentation with Colts captain George Tunnicliffe.

Men’s winners

  • Barry Stewart Front Row award: Mark Greenwood.
  • Coaches’ Player of the Year: Tom Graham.
  • Players’ Player and Young Player of the Year: Tyler Callaghan.
  • Most Improved Player: Alfie Batty.
  • 25 appearances: Lloyd Clark
  • 50 appearances: James Brocket and Robbie James.
