Cleator Moor Celtic manager Stuart Shaw’s belief in young forward Ben McCarron paid off in the final game of the season.
Young McCarron might have been for the hook after missing a number of chances but Shaw kept him on and he came up with the winner in the 3-2 home victory over Slyne With Hest.
Shaw explained: “It was chance after chance falling to young Ben and after four, five and six chances he must have thought ‘what do I need to do to score?’
“Slyne then got a very soft penalty to bring them level and the thoughts came back of ‘here we go again’ of not taking our chances to win a game.
“But the reason I kept Ben on the field was because I knew he would get us a winner. The belief I have in him is that he is always going to get me a goal, and that came.”

Four minutes from the end Jack Agnew, who had replaced the very impressive youngster Flynn Purdham, picked up the ball to play in McCarron, one on one with the keeper and this time he slotted it into the bottom corner.
Celtic had started the game really well, dominating the first 20 minutes and going in front through a Rhys Little header at the back post.
Then some confusion from defender and goalkeeper let Slyne back in the game with an equaliser which deflated the home side.

It was pretty poor stuff them from the home side although they did go in with a 2-1 half-time lead through a beautiful left foot strike from Bradley Rooney.
In the second-half Celtic did step up a gear and dominated the game but after conceding an equalising penalty kept going for McCarron to score the late winner – and confirm his manager’s belief.
