Glasgow Tigers rider Lee Complin has been suspended for 20 months after being found guilty of the use of a banned substance.
Following the alleged breach of the anti–doping regulations the Speedway Control Bureau held a disciplinary hearing today where Complin pleaded not guilty.
He denied two breaches of rules – any proceedings or acts prejudicial to the interest of the sport and the presence of a prohibited substance or its metabolites or markers in the body.
After hearing all the evidence provided regarding the test taken at Berwick Speedway on April 6 2024 and subsequently the confirmation of the test results from Eurofins Forensic Services Laboratory, the Disciplinary Panel found him guilty of the two charges.
Having considered all the mitigation prior to sentencing the Disciplinary Panel imposed the following penalties –
1. As of April 6 2024, suspension of both his ACU Licence and SCB Registration for a period of 20 months
2. To pay cost to the value of £2,000, this to be paid over the 20-month period
3. Prior to applying for his Licence and Registration for the 2026 season produce a segmented hair test for a period of 3 months, at his own expense.
Glasgow’s facility for his absence has been extended by 14 days and will end on May 30.
Complin, 38, rode many times at Derwent Park against Workington, mainly for Sheffield and Berwick but last season in the National Development League he guested for the Comets.
With number one Connor Bailey riding for Redcar, the Comets had to use a guest rider in their second away match at Berwick and Complin top-scored with 12 points and a bonus.
He also appeared for the Comets at Northside later in the season when Workington suffered a crushing 59-31 defeat to Edinburgh Academy.
Complin had scored points in each of his first four rides, with a win, two seconds and a third, before he fell in the final race and was excluded with the Edinburgh side awarded a 5-1.
A North Yorkshireman he made his debut for Sheffield in the 2001 season and had a number of clubs before moving to Berwick for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons before leaving speedway for nearly ten years.
He was part of the Berwick team that had won the Premier League Fours at the East of England Arena, Peterborough in 2012.
In 2021, he made a surprise comeback and signed for Newcastle Diamonds for the Championship in 2022 but the team folded in June resulting in Complin signing for Plymouth Gladiators in August and he finished the 2022 season with them.
Last season he signed for Glasgow for the Championship, where he won the League title and he also raced in 2023 in the Development League for Mildenhall Fen Tigers and helped them win the Knockout Cup.
