
Whitehaven were the latest team to feel the force of Championship leaders Wakefield Trinity.
The West Cumbrians lost 30-6 at the Ortus Rec after a spirited effort against the former Super League side.
It had been keenly fought in the first quarter with Wakefield looking the more dangerous, but Whitehaven having their moments.
Edene Gebbie was held up over the line and it became a turnover ball to Trinity.
The breakthrough came on 20 minutes when Wakefield spread the ball wide and Oliver Pratt held off a home defender to stretch out and score. Max Jowitt put over a touchline conversion.

Whitehaven were making a number of handling errors which contributed to them being put under pressure defensively.
The second try came on 28 minutes when Wakefield skipper Matty Ahurst spun out of a tackle and got the ball down. Jowitt converted.
The Whitehaven defence was put under more pressure and did well until the 37th minute when Thomas Doyle dived over from dummy-half. Jowitt’s conversion gave the visitors an 18-0 interval lead.

Haven made a strong start to the second-half and reduced the arrears on 48 minutes.
A kick to the corner from Jake Carter was patted back by Joey Romey with Curtis Teare quickest to react and score. Carter converted to suggest it might be game on.
But hopes were quickly snuffed out when Trinity scored two minutes later as Ky Rodwell charged over and Jowitt converted.

Whitehaven were still showing a lot of fire and determination and they looked to be in when Lachlan Hanneghan made a great break down the middle. A really promising position was ended by a great saving tackle from Derrell Olpherts.
The game was wrapped up for Trinity with a fifth try on 66 minutes when Jermaine McGillvary stepped inside to touchdown and Jowitt was on target again with the kick.
