A party political advertisement on behalf of John Stevenson

We now know the General Election is set for July 4. I will be standing proudly on my record as the MP for Carlisle for the last 14 years.

I have lived in the area for more than 30 years, married a local girl, helped build a business – and I was a city councillor for 11 years before being elected as MP.

I am committed to the city and the region – and I will always do what is best for our city whenever I proudly represent Carlisle in Parliament.

Over the years my mission has been to attract investment, both public and private, into Carlisle.

It is only with a successful economy that you can have good jobs, good public services, and ensure a good quality of life.

And over the last 14 years significant investment has come to Carlisle.

Indeed, the city and surrounding area has seen more than £600 million invested in projects such as the southern ring road, the university, the station refurbishment, and the new hospital cancer and endoscopy units amongst other schemes.

Investment from the private sector matters also. We have seen investments from DPD, Amazon, McVitie’s, Pirelli, Nestle into our city – and very excitingly, the recent announcement of AW Jenkinson acquiring the airport.

But there is still much more to do! Carlisle has begun the process of unlocking its huge potential, but the work has to continue.

This means making sure projects like St Cuthbert’s Garden Village, the Cumbrian Energy Coast, and the railway station upgrades, among others, are done – and done properly – so that our city and region benefit as a whole.

Let’s continue the Carlisle project and make sure that the hard work doesn’t stop now, so that our city can take advantage of all the opportunities that I know will come our way.
