Workington A suffered their first defeat of the season in the West Cumbria Fours League when they were beaten 4-3 at Keswick by the home Fitz Park side.

Late in the game it seemed that the result would be 7-0 to the home side but, as so often happens in bowls, fortunes swung dramatically over the last few ends and it became a tight contest in the end.

Maryport maintained their good form in this Whitehaven Trophies-sponsored League with a 4-3 win at Vulcan Par which keeps them second but still eight points behind Workington A.

Other results were: Seaton 0, Cleator Moor 7; Workington B 2, Whitehaven A 5.

League standings (Games played and points): Workington A 7-42, Maryport 8-34, Whitehaven A 7-29, Cleator Moor 7-27; Fitz Park 6-26, Seaton 7-18, Workington B 6-16, Vulcan Park 7-17, Whitehaven B 7-8.

There were no games scheduled in the West Cumbria Mixed Triples League but two games which had been postponed earlier in the season were played: Seascale 7, Egremont 2 and Workington 7, Whitehaven A 2. The league standings will be reported next week.
