Thousands of people have lost their mobile phone signal today as a telecom mast continues to experience issues.

Engineers have been sent out to identify the fault at the Egremont mast – but the firm have warned that service may come and go until it is fixed.

An O2 spokesman said: “We are aware that some customers in the Egremont area may be experiencing intermittent issues with their service, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“Our infrastructure partner, Vodafone, is aware of the issue and working as quickly as possible to resolve it.”

Last night, O2 sent Cumbria Crack an update. It said: “We are aware that there is a hardware fault, and until investigated properly we are not able to confirm if it is a power issue.

“Our team is working hard with appropriate third parties to safely investigate this further. We are hoping to see progress as soon as possible.”

Vodafone said: “We’re sorry to our customers who are affected by issues with their services. We are aware of the issue and are working our hardest to get this solved as soon as possible. We encourage our customers to sign up to Network Checker to receive service updates regarding network issues.”
