A public meeting has been called to discuss the closure of two bridges over the A591.

Westmorland and Furness Council has invited residents and businesses in Brigsteer and Helsington, Underbarrow, Levens and surrounding communities to attend a public meeting on the closures of Brigsteer and Underbarrow bridges.

It will take place at the Underbarrow Institute on July 11 from 7pm to 8.30pm.

The two bridges were closed as a precautionary measure on June 12 due to structural concerns following an external expert report.

There will be a presentation covering the most up-to-date information on the closures followed by an open floor question-and-answer session.

All traffic including vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and emergency services is currently required to follow the signed diversions:

  • Underbarrow Bridge: Via the C5048, U853 Queens Road (Kendal), A5284 Windermere Road (Kendal) , B5284, C5059 and C5048.
  • Brigsteer Road Bridge: Via C5062, U782, U583 Queens Road (Kendal), A5284 Windermere Road (Kendal) , B5284, C5059 and C5062.
