Cause of mobile phone signal outage in Egremont revealed

As thousands of people face weeks of mobile phone signal disruption in Egremont – Vodafone has revealed its cause.

People using the O2 network are experiencing intermittent mobile signal issues following a telecom mast fault in the area, which was first reported on Friday 28 June.

Engineers are working on the fault at the Egremont mast – but while progress is being made, the firm said people will have to wait until Friday 12 July for an update on the disruption.

Vodafone – who own the mast – have now confirmed that a third party power issue has damaged equipment at the site of the mast.

The third-party have had to fix the power issue first so that Vodafone engineers can safely investigate.

A Vodafone spokesman said: “Our engineers have been on-site assessing the work required for the repair, and this is being progressed as quickly as possible to restore service for our customers.

“We are sorry to our customers who are affected by the issues to their services.”

Other mobile phone networks using the same mast are also affected, including Tesco Mobile, Sky Mobile and GiffGaff.

People using the O2 network are unable to make calls, send text messages or use mobile data.

An O2 spokesman said: “We are aware that some customers in the Egremont area may be experiencing intermittent issues with their service, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“Our infrastructure partner, Vodafone, is aware of the issue and working as quickly as possible to resolve it.”
