SPAR Bowness will open its doors today – Thursday July 4 and excitement is building for the launch.

Located in Rayrigg Road, the SPAR convenience store will open to the public at 11am and the development has transformed the former Rayrigg Motors site.

Highlight store features include a Graham Eyes butchers, Clayton Park deli, and Cheeky Coffee machine, and these will sit alongside a comprehensive range of convenience goods and big-name brands at low prices.

Fresh produce will be available to buy loose, enabling customers to purchase what they need, and a wide range of Cumbrian and Lakeland products are prominent in the store.

Outside of the store will be an English Lakes branded ice cream van adjacent to a four-pump Shell livery forecourt, an EV charge point, air and water machine, and customer parking.

Opening hours are between 6am and midnight, seven days a week, and construction of the store has included local slate in keeping with the surrounding area.

In the run-up to the launch, SPAR have been supporting a range of community groups and organisations in the local area.

Blackwell Sailing which provides sailing opportunities for people with disabilities has received a donation helping them to purchase much-needed life vests and SPAR has also supported Windermere Rugby Club ahead of the new season.

The Save Windermere movement has also received a donation to aid its ongoing campaign.

Fiona Drummond, company stores director for James Hall & Co Ltd, owner of SPAR Bowness, said: “We are very excited to launch our SPAR store in Bowness, not only to support the significant number of tourists that visit the Lake District throughout the year, but also a core customer base who live in the Windermere area.

“Our area manager James Watt has been busy making good on SPAR’s brand pillars of Nurture Our Neighbourhoods and Passionate About Local with our community support ahead of launch, and I am pleased we have been able to help a variety of good causes.

“All that remains is for our team of locally employed people led by manager Chris Warriner to continue with these values after launch, while providing the very best convenience offer for customers.”
