The first phase of work on a project to improve cycling and walking routes in Whitehaven will get underway on Monday.
Cumberland Council was awarded funding from the Government’s Active Travel Fund to deliver the work through the South Whitehaven area on Route 14.
Route 14 is also part of the National Cycle Network and consists of an off-road cycle provision which links Stanley View to Esk Avenue in Whitehaven.
Proposed improvements include the widening of the shared use cycleway/footway and changes to traffic signs and road markings to promote Active Travel.
The council’s specialist highways engineers will undertake the work which will be done in phases over the summer and autumn.
The first phase of work will start at Esk Avenue and users of this part of the route will be required to follow the diversion route.
