Carlisle City started their pre-season programme with a 3-1 home defeat to Threave Rovers.
City’s new manager Dan Kirkup had to go into the contest without several of his key players, but will have a stronger side to take to Workington on Tuesday.
“We will have some of our big hitters on Tuesday and the team that played Threave included a lot of squad players from last season who hadn’t played much for a while.
“I did include a couple of new faces, Liam Lightfoot and Kieran Blair, and they both did well which was very pleasing.
“Threave were well into their pre-season while this was our first game and we haven’t been in training that long.
“We actually started pretty well for the first 20 minutes but really they dominated the game from there and to be honest from 60/70 minutes they gave us a bit of a runaround. I think we were out on our feet at the end and it didn’t help that I hadn’t many substitutes.
“I’m working on getting a couple of new faces in, one of them being a centre-half so that I don’t have to get my boots out again.”
Keighran Kerr had given City the lead in the first minute but the Scots levelled before half-time, and goals in the 52nd and 59th minutes gave the visitors their win.
