Cumbria made a good fist of their Showcase game with Lancashire at Sedbergh School on Sunday.
The County Championship side won by 39 runs in a 50-overs friendly which was actually reduced to 43 overs because of the weather.
Lancashire’s total of 231-8 was built on a strong start at the top of the order with their first three batsmen all among the runs.
Opener Harry Singh, who played for Cumbria at the start of the season, top-scored with 76; wicket-keeper/opener George Bell hit 63 and George Lavelle, another Lancastrian who has played for Cumbria chipped-in with 42.
When Lavelle went, bowled by Nico Watt, Lancashire were 197-4 after 35.1 overs but they could only add 34 more runs off the last eight overs and lost four more wickets in the process.

Watt finished as Cumbria’s most successful bowler with 5-43 while Freddie Fallows, Sam Sharp and Josh Stirling each took one wicket.
Evan Williams, as he had in the last Championship game, was Cumbria’s leading light as the opener top-scored with 64 and the main support came from Watt (29no) and Fraine (25) as they reached 192-9 after their 43 overs.
