Workington will come up against one of their former players when they take on Clitheroe in their final pre-season friendly a week on Saturday.
The NPL West side have confirmed that striker Louis Potts Has signed a new one-year deal, with the option of a year’s extension in the club’s favour
The 22-year-old has found his home at Shawbridge, after spending the early parts of last season with Ashton United and Avro. Across all three teams, Potts made 36 appearances last season, scoring eight goals.
His best return came for the Blues, scoring three times in seven appearances, including a final-day goal in their 3-1 win over NPL West champions Leek Town.
Manager Jimmy Bell has expressed his delight at securing Potts for another season, stating: “I can’t believe this lad is only playing at this level, he’s got everything I like in a centre forward.”
Potts joined Workington as a teenager, signed by former manager Danny Grainger in his first spell after Potts had been released by Preston North End.
He just had the one season at Borough Park before moving on to Glossop North End and Mossley before stints with Ashton United and Avro.
Workington boss Fell specifically looked to fix-up Clitheroe as the final friendly because he believes they are a potential NPL Premier side with an excellent new manager in Jimmy Bell.
“I think it should be a good test going into the new season as I think Jimmy will have a side capable of winning NPL West,” he said.
The former assistant manager with Accrington Stanley under John Coleman he has already tempted one of their long serving players Sean McConville (close on 400 games for Stanley) to join him at Clitheroe. He has also recruited forward Miles Storey who has had a long career in the game with Swindon, Portsmouth and Newport, as well as Europa League experience with Aberdeen.
