LISTEN: Dan Kirkup’s thoughts on Carlisle City’s prospects

Carlisle City completed their pre-season programme with a 0-0 draw against a Carlisle United Under-18s side.

In a game of few chances, but compact defences, it finished with honours even but City boss Dan Kirkup considered it a good workout to end pre-season with.

It’s all been geared up for the opening Northern League game on Saturday when City go to Tow Law, one of last season’s strugglers but who have been reshaped with a new squad for 2024/2025.

The City manager has two injury concerns ahead of the game – both the recent signings Liam Lightfoot and Kieran Blair, both of whom are described as doubtful.

Kirkup announced afterwards that one of the trialists who has been training and playing with his side in pre-season has now been signed.

He is Kian Goulding, formerly with Whitehaven AFC, and is the nephew of former Workington Reds winger Graham Goulding – to whom the club’s fans forum Get Goulding On is dedicated.

After the game Kirkup told Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh what he thought about the last warm-up, his new recruit, Saturday’s opposition and prospects for the season.
