Workington Reds have signed two of the younger players who have appeared in pre-season matches and done enough to impress manager Mark Fell.
Ben McCarron, who has been with Cleator Moor Celtic in the West Lancashire League had a growing reputation there as a goal-scorer, and also netted frequently in the West Cumberland Sunday League with County Cup winners Parkside.
Tom Stevenson, who was with Black[pool as a youngster, has been more recently playing his trade as a full-back with Holker Old Boys.
Manager Fell said: “They are young players who we feel could have a positive impact on our success this year.
“It may be that we manage their playing time with some carefully selected loans and dual registrations, but wouldn’t have them in with us if we didn’t think they had very bright futures.”
Only Stevenson is likely to be involved this weekend when Reds travel to Ashington for their latest friendly on Saturday which is likely to provide them with a good test. McCarron is not available.
Ashington play in NPL East and are regarded as one of the front-runners for promotion this coming season after recruiting well.
