Cumbria rugby union’s County Championship side’s top players are being honoured for the first time.
The best back and the best forward have been selected by the county coaches, while the players’ player was self-explanatory.
The awards have been introduced to recognise individual, consistently outstanding performances from members of the county side.
The best back was Rob Coward of Penrith; the best forward was Tom McCullough of Northern and the players’ player was captain Matt Houghton of Kendal.
Dan Bowman, the Cumbria head coach, said: “Tom McCullough is a Carlisle lad who now plays for Northern. He made his Cumbria debut this season and his performances were outstanding.
“Rob Coward was electric and an attacking threat every time he got the ball. He is youthful and has a bright future in the game.

“Matt Houghton has been captain and Mr consistent over a number of seasons. It’s no surprise he has been recognised by his fellow players.
“He is an outstanding player and individual.”
Club Cumbria chairman Kevin O’Neill will be organising a special presentation to the trio, probably at an agreed home game at the start of next season.
