Carlisle City were beaten 3-1 in their second game of the season in the Northern League Division One with Newcastle Benfield.
It was an entertaining game and City were not without chances but it was the home side who opened the scoring just before half time on 40 minutes.
Callum Guy beat a man and then let go with a strong shot which flew into the net beyond Scott Paden-Gale.
A second game two minutes into the second-half proved crucial and it was Noah Millington who provided it with a curling shot past Paden-Gale into the corner of the net.
On the hour Benfield took a firm grip on the game when Guy lifted the ball over the City keeper for the third goal.
City put in a big finish and went close through Jay Kelly before Josh Simpson scored with a brilliant free kick on 75 minutes. Another effort from Kelly soon after almost produced a second.
It leaves City ninth in a group of 10 teams on three points and they can now turn their attention to Friday night’s trip to Whickham in the FA Cup.
Their rivals have lost both their league games so far.
