Armed police spotted at a major Lake District event are there to provide reassurance, Cumbria Constabulary said.
People have spotted armed officers at this year’s Keswick Convention and were concerned by their presence.
The annual event brings thousands of people into town and surrounding areas. It usually has an armed police presence.
Chief Inspector Annette McClement said they were there to offer visible reassurance.
She said: “Public safety is always our top priority. As part of our policing of this year’s Keswick Convention – as was the case in previous years – people will see both unarmed and armed officers in the area.
“We would ask people who see armed police officers not to be alarmed by this.
“Armed officers at large events have become more of a common sight in recent years, with Cumbria deploying officers to a number of events.
“The officers are there to provide visible reassurance.”
