Workington celebrated its special relationship with its twin town at the weekend.
The West Cumbrian town and Selm in Germany are marking their 30th anniversary this year.
As part of the celebrations of the major milestone, nine people from Selm visited at the weekend.
A tree was planted in Vulcan Park and the visitors attended the Party in The Park, organised by Workington Town Council.
The tree was a gift from Selm to the people of Workington and was followed by a poem read by John Hastings who updated the work he wrote for the 25th anniversary.
Most of the visitors stayed with families with whom they have built special relationships, some over many years.
Barbara Cannon, chair of Workington Twinning Association, said: “It is always a special moment to celebrate an anniversary, especially with friends. Our guests had a great weekend and enjoyed visiting a couple of local restaurants as well as attending a party in the garden of one of our members.
“The weather was exceptionally nice and a visit to Keswick and Silloth was greatly appreciated. Plans are being made for future visits to Selm and also to Workington.
“Anyone wanting to get involved in the twinning association can message us on our Facebook page or by writing to us at the Carnegie Theatre in Workington.”
In 1994, a charter was signed by then-Workington mayor Peter Bales and dignitaries in Selm committing the towns to maintaining and strengthening the bonds of friendship between citizens and to promoting peace, developing links for young people, for culture, education, sport, business and social work.
