Penrith are two-from-two in the Northern League after a 2-1 home win over Seaham Red Star last night.
It followed a 3-0 win over Birtley Town on Saturday, and they were being tipped for title hopes, while Seaham are not regarded as one of the League’s better sides.
But they are young and worked hard, so Penrith had to respond in kind and it made for an entertaining game for the Frenchfield faithful.
In fact Penrith should have won handier than they did, creating a number of chances throughout the game that they unable to finish off.
By comparison Seaham only really created two opportunities one of which they took but it was always a game that was too close for comfort.
Penrith had been given a superb start when Martyn Coleman scored the opening goal in the third minute with a smart finish.
But after wasting chances Penrith paid the price on the half hour when Michael Connelly notched an equaliser for the visitors.
It stayed at 1-1 through to the 77th minute and just when the home fans were getting anxious centre-back Ronan Irving popped up with a back post header to win it for Penrith.
That win puts Penrith in third place in the early First Division table, joint top with three other sides who have won both of their games.
They can put the League behind them on Saturday when they host Pickering in the FA Cup.
Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh asked Penrith manager Darren Edmondson for his thoughts on last night’s game which you can hear below:
