A West Cumbrian father and son aim to conquer Workington’s Festival of Running this weekend – by completing all the runs back-to-back.

The event on Sunday, August 4, features a 1k run, 5k run, 10k run and half marathon – and Alan and Elliot Murray aim to do them all.

They are raising funds for boxing clubs in the area.

They aim to complete the half-marathon first, with a 30 minute rest then into theĀ 10k, with Whitehaven & Workington MP Josh MacAlister and crime commissioner David Allen, before a small rest into the penultimate 5k race with a main event of 1k to finish.

Alan and Elliot are hoping to raiseĀ  funds for less privileged youngsters to be able to attend amateur boxing clubs in Workington, Whitehaven, Carlisle, Maryport, Wigton and Egremont during the summer holidays.

Alan said: “I have always liked to raise money for worthy causes and dig out my old running shoes, so the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree, as Elliot is also a keen runner and fundraiser.”

Workington Town Council has teamed up with Cumberland Athletics Club to organise the festival.
