A Cumbrian bakery has been shortlisted in prestigious industry awards.

Lovingly Artisan, based at Plumgarth’s, Kendal has been nominated for four categories in Baking Industry Awards 2024.

Over the weekend the Lovingly Artisan team discovered that their Northern Bliss-cuits had been shortlisted in the New Bakery Product of the Year category, alongside Extra Special Naan Inspired Bloomer by Asda, Roasted Hazelnut Chocolatine by DeliFrance (obo M&S), Garlic-Roasted Broccoli & Vintage Cheddar Quiche with Emmental Crumb by Higgidy, Passion Fruit Pavlova Longboy by Longboys and Kimchi and Smoked Cheese Bear Claw by M’s Bakery.

The team also found out that the bakery’s Rye Berry Sourdough had been shortlisted in the Speciality Bread Product of the Year category alongside Extra Special Apple & Raisin & Cinnamon Fruit Loaf by Asda and Sprouted Ancient Grain Sourdough by Stir Bakery.

The bakery was also shortlisted in the Craft Bakery Business of the Year category alongside 108 Bakery, Henllan Bakery and Pettigrew Bakeries.

While Aidan Monks co-owner of Lovingly Artisan was shortlisted in the Baker of the Year category with Gary Kadas of Seven Seeded,  Sandor Bagameri of Stir Bakery and Tomas Martin of 4Eyes Bakery.

Now the Lovingly Artisan team alongside the other shortlisted finalists will all have to wait until the black-tie awards evening in London, on Thursday October 24, to find out who wins across each of the 12 award categories.

Amy North, Editor of British Baker, said: “The Baking Industry Awards celebrate the people, products, and businesses that make the sector such an incredible one – from artisanal sourdough loaves and the bakers who handcraft them to the manufacturers helping to keep the nation happy and fed, and everyone in between.

“Lovingly Artisan is the only business to be shortlisted in four separate categories this year. This outstanding achievement highlights the quality and passion of everything Aidan, Catherine, and their fantastic team are delivering on a daily basis.

“It is an exemplary business which serves as a reminder of the thriving artisanal bakery scene in Britain.”

Lovingly Artisan’s Aidan Monks and Catherine Connor said: “It’s a real honour to be shortlisted alongside the other finalists in this year’s finals.

“The annual BIA awards are the biggest event in the industry year and provide a magnificent platform to recognise the skills and achievements of the whole sector.

“We’re both blown away that we’ve been shortlisted in four award categories. Our aim as a bakery is to place quality loaves of bread made using only the finest ingredients at the heart of the family table and to demonstrate that when bread is made properly with all-natural ingredients it can and should be part of a healthy and nutritious diet.”
