It’s going to need a huge effort from Whitehaven when they take on doomed Dewsbury Rams on Sunday.
New coach Kyle Amor has only been able to name 15 players for the trip to the bottom side, who have only won once so far this season.
Whitehaven have six games to avoid going down with the Rams but with no signing options open to them it’s going to be a tough ask.
Amot, though, was up-beat after his first training session and he now has a Whitehaven stalwart by his side in the coaching area – Scott McAvoy who has agreed to help out again.
The coach was happy after a brilliant training session on Thursday, he said, although down on numbers.
“It was upbeat, energetic and it was fun and what I’ve got out there is what (former Haven boss) Jonty Gorley told me about: a committed bunch that are committed to this club and committed to each other.
“We understand the challenges ahead for us on Sunday. We didn’t get everyone down there, but we’ve managed to get through and show that true Cumbrian gritty underdog mentality of getting out there.”
“The main news is we’re going to Dewsbury and we’re going to give it our best shot. We’re hopefully, potentially, going to do something really special. It’s a huge boost, I’m really excited and I can’t wait.”
He has named the following 15 players for the game against the Rams – Sam Ackroyd, Ross Ainley, Lucas Castle, Rio Corkill, Will Evans, Lachlan Hanneghan, Ryan King, Owen McCarron, James Newton, Joey Romeo, Callum Shaw, Perry Singleton, Curtis Teare, Mac Walsh, Huw Worthington.
