Workington Comets final Championship meeting of the season with Plymouth tomorrow has been postponed.
The weather forecast for later today and tomorrow is bad so in view of the travelling involved the fixture will be fitted in at a later date.
It was actually a crazy fixture timetable for the Gladiators who rode at Redcar last night where they lost 48-42, are back down in Devon tonight for a home match with Poole and were then due to ride at Northside tomorrow.
Actually although the Gladiators are very much an outside bet for the top four they could still make it in with wins and aggregate points in their final three fixtures.
They have declared either an unspecified guest or rider replacement at No.1 whilst the Pirates are without both of their regular reserves with Vinnie Foord injured and Tobias Thomsen on compassionate leave.
Workington’s recently signed Paul Starke guests for Foord whilst Ben Trigger replaces Thomsen under the ‘no facility’ restrictions.
Poole promoter Dan Ford said: “This is a must-win match if we’re to secure top spot in the league. We’re bringing in experienced reserves who know their way around the Coliseum. We’re ready to give it our all and keep pushing forward.”
Redcar had beaten them 48-42 last night in the north east when Pairs winners Charles Wright and Danny King were both in top form.
Ex Workington rider Wright scored an 11+1 paid maximum from four rides, whilst King picked up 14 from five.
Dan Thompson was superb for the Gladiators once again with 14 from six outings, as the visitors remained in contention until Heat 14.
The result also means the Bears could still mathematically finish in the top four although they would be relying on significant favours from elsewhere to do so.
Still, at this late stage with Poole, Oxford and Scunthorpe confirmed top four finishers the last spot is between Workington, Glasgow, Redcar and Plymouth.
