A dead whale has washed up on a West Cumbrian beach.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team were called out yesterday evening, August 26, to Braystones.
The decomposed mammal is around 3.5 metres in length and the team believe it to be a juvenile minke or fin whale, pending confirmation from experts.
The team said: “The necessary record form was completed with measurements and details by the team and passed back to our Co-ordination Centre Belfast Coastguard, as well as to the Natural History Museum Strandings team as part of the UK Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme.
“Our co-ordination centre will also notify local authorities for disposal, if the tide or nature doesn’t run its course first.”
