A player who marked Lionel Messi in the Champions League will be turning out for Workington Reds next week.
Efe Ambrose, a 35-year-old Nigerian international, spent five years at Celtic between 2012 and 2017 racking up 113 appearances and scoring five goals.
The highlight was turning out against Messi and Barcelona in 2012 when Celtic won 2-1 at Parkhead.
He had a torrid career with Celtic before joining Hibernian and he has subsequently played most of his football north of the border with Livingstone, St Johnstone, Dunfermline, Greenock Morton and last season, Queen of the South.
For this season he had joined Bury in the North West Counties where he was playing alongside a number of ex-Reds in Reuben Jerome, Brad Carroll, Bobby Carroll and Iyrwah Gooden.
He has already played in the FA Cup for Bury so his Workington debut will be delayed until September 7 when Warrington Rylands visit Borough Park.
Manager Mark Fell said: “Efe is a really experienced player who is going to bring loads to the team. He can play in one or two positions and I am looking forward to him being eligible to play for us.”
Fell also revealed that he is also trying to bring in a second experienced player he has worked with previously “who will bring a lot to the dressing room.”
