Barrow made a deadline signing when they completed a loan deal for forward Chris Popov from Leicester City.
Popov is a 19-year-old Welsh Youth International who can play anywhere across the frontline.
The season-long deal was completed days after Popov made his Leicester debut as a substitute when the Foxes beat Tranmere 4-0 in the Carabao Cup.
Since joining from Manchester United’s academy as a 16-year-old, Popov has had a frustrating time with injury, but has been able to show his promise when fit.
The striker has earned comparisons to Jamie Vardy for his speed and relentless pressing. He scored 19 goals in 31 games for the club’s Under-18s before stepping up to the Under-21s over the past two seasons.
He has since netted five times in 31 outings, including in the opening game of the current Premier League 2 campaign.
His appearance in that mid-week game against Tranmere means Popov will be Cup-tied for Barrow’s big trip to London to take on Chelsea in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
He’s also featured for the Foxes’ youth team in the EFL Trophy five times in the past three seasons making him no stranger to playing football at this level.
However, unfortunately for The Bluebirds, he’ll be cup-tied for this year’s competition having already featured for Leicester Under-21s in their BSM Trophy game against League One side, Burton Albion.
Popov was a part of the Leicester City Under-21s side which was defeated by The Bluebirds in the EFL Trophy during the 2021/2022 season.
Before Manchester United., and then Leicester, Popov had also previously spent time in the academy set-ups at Everton, and Cardiff City.
At international level he has represented the Wales youth teams 25 times since under 15s level.
