Carlisle United landed another midfielder ahead of the transfer deadline.
Harrison Biggins, 28, has linked up with the Cumbrians on a season-long loan deal from Shrewsbury Town.
It’s a move which has taken the Shrewsbury fans by surprise as Biggins only joined the Shrews in the summer on a free from Doncaster.
Shrewsbury head coach Paul Hurst admitted it is a move that has come out of the blue and that Biggins feels he ‘may not have had the best start to his Town career’.
He went on: “With some of the players we’ve brought in recently, and looking at the whole picture, we felt that Harrison’s starting options looked like they were going to be difficult to come by.
“He’s still our player and certainly could have stayed if he wanted to, but he may not feel he’s had the best start to his Shrewsbury career and I cannot criticise a player who wants to go and play games.
“We shook hands and I wished him well.
“He’s still our player and we’ll be monitoring him closely and seeing how he gets on.”
There is a recall option in January on the arrangement.
Sheffield-born Biggins, played youth football for Barnsley. He moved to Fleetwood in the summer of 2017 and made his debut for the club at Brunton Park in an EFL Trophy game.
He went on to make 99 appearances for Fleetwood and during that time spent time on loan at Barrow where he played 22 times.
He joined Doncaster Rovers in 2022 and was an integral part of the Doncaster team which went on an impressive run of ten straight wins towards the end of last season.
Manager Paul Simpson said: “I’m delighted. He’s a player that we talked about in the summer, as he’s an attack-minded, goalscoring midfield player.
“He’s different to what we’ve got, so I’m really pleased we’ve got him in the building. I’m surprised that Shrewsbury have let him go out to be honest.
“I think he really adds to the group. He’s a really good footballer. Gets goals from midfield, he’s a great athlete and gets around the pitch well.
“He’s had a full pre-season and has been involved in all the games so far. He’s got a week to settle in, as he’s not available tomorrow and he’s cup-tied, so can’t play on Tuesday.”
Biggins will wear the number 12 shirt during his spell at United.
