Success for trio of Sunday League teams

Three teams in the West Cumberland Sunday League’s Premier Division have started the season with three straight wins.

Champions Northside, rejuvenated Deer Orchard and the youthful Dearham Commercial head the early League table.

Parkside, strong challengers last season for the title and also the Sunday County Cup winners, still have to play a game. They start on Sunday with a trip to Deer Orchard.

In the latest mid-week round of matches Northside were 6-1 winners at home to the Lowca Pirates.

Harry Watson led the way with a hat-trick and also on the score-sheet for Northside were Logan Bosward, Kyle Graham and Max Litt. Owen Woodburn was the Lowca scorer.

Orchard were involved in a nine goal thriller at Wakefield Road, emerging 5-4 winners against Sun Inn.

Jayden Fulton (2), Milo Cooke, Keith Skillen and Sam Wright were the scorers for Orchard with Andrew Trestianu (2), Louis Elliott and Kieran McLuskey replying for the Aspatria visitors.

There was another tight game at Dearham where the home side just edged it 2-1 over Butchers.

Danny Manchester and Matty Oglanby netted for Dearham with Cameron Carter on target for the Maryport side.

In Division One Salterbeck were 5-3 winners at Swan with goals from Leon Wharrier (2), Courley Robertson, Arley Fennessey and Jonathan Bridgewater. The Swan responded through Jay Dempsey, Iestyn Hughes and Andrew Leech.

Zebras continued their good start by beating Miners 3-2 with goals from Harvey Shimmings, Karl Fillingham and Regan Tinnion.

The Miners stayed in the contest with goals from Jonny Walton and Arron Hunter.

The Sun were also involved in another tight 3-2 contest and came out on top against Thornhill.

Jamie Pattinson (2) and Brandon O’Fee grabbed the goals while Andrew Begbie and Luke Yudale netted for Thornhill.

A mid-week full of tight, even matches was typified by the only draw – 1-1 between the King’s Arms and the Royal Oak. Chris Moore and John Sparks were the respective scorers.

Let’s hope the close nature of this round of League fixtures continues for the rest of the season.

Sunday’s fixtures

Premier Division – Deer Orchard v Parkside; Butchers v Northside; Lowca Pirates v Bluebell; Moresby Rangers v Sun Inn.

Division One – Senhouse Street v Borough Miners; Sun Inn Athletic v King’s Arms; The Sun v Salterbeck; Whitehaven Development v Thornhill.
