Poole will host either Workington or Glasgow in the first leg of their Cab Direct Championship play off semi-final at Wimborne Road next Wednesday September 11.

The Pirates have topped the table after the completion of their regular schedule, but the fourth play off place is still to be resolved and will be known after this weekend’s fixtures involving the Comets and the Tigers.

Poole promoter Dan Ford said: “We have the agreement of the managements of both Workington and Glasgow for them to come to us on the 11th.

“Whichever side it turns out to be it will be a tough fixture for us without a doubt and, as in previous seasons, we are hoping to get plenty of support to help our lads get the job done.

“I can assure everyone that the boys are really up for going all the way this year in all three competitions.

“We already have secured our place in the BSN Series Final and could do likewise with the Cab Direct KO Cup on Friday when we go to Scunthorpe, so it is important that we get ourselves off to a good start in the league play-offs and if we can build a decent first leg, with the encouragement of our supporters, it would position us strongly.”

Workington will clinch fourth sport if the beat Plymouth at Northside on Saturday, having already won in Devon.

But the prospect of a two-legged clash with Poole is daunting. In two visits to the Dorset track they have crashed 61-29 and 59-31, which effectively ended their hopes of progress.
