Firefighters from Sellafield Fire and Rescue will be taking on a challenge with a difference this weekend.
The colleagues, with family and friends, will walk the 10 miles around Derwentwater on Saturday, September 14, dressed in fire kit and carrying breathing apparatus equipment.
It has been organised by Elliott Ennis-Wood and the firefighters are raising money for Cancer Research UK.
Elliott said: “It has affected my family directly, through my mother-in-law and another firefighter’s wife. Since I started talking about how cancer has affected my family you soon realise how many other families are also affected by this horrible disease.
“We are raising money for further research and also trying to raise awareness of early detection and doing the testing kit if people have had it delivered to their home.
“My mother-in-law nearly never did the simple test but we are all glad she did. She had bowel cancer which so far had no symptoms. With early detection and treatment she is now fully cancer-free all thanks to early detection.
“We are just wanting to raise more awareness to as many people as possible and hopefully be free of this horrible disease.”
