Workington Town Ladies are just 80 minutes away from a historic trophy double in their first full season of competitive rugby league, writes John Hastings.
Playing their first game in five weeks, Workington showed no signs of rustiness at Wigan St Jude’s as they scored seven tries to seal a comprehensive 34-0 victory.
Beth Adams registered her maiden Town try while Juliet Porter touched down twice to make it six tries for her so far this season and other tries came from Katie Jackson, Josie Scrimgour, Sophie Price and Alice Rush, who also added three conversions.
Workington stand level on points at the top of RFL League 2 with Orrell St James, who have completed their fixtures – but crucially Workington have a superior points difference and have a game in hand.
That game is this Saturday at The Fibrus Community Stadium against Halifax Panthers, whom Town have already beaten 22-12 in July.
Having already won the RFL Women’s Plate in July, Workington will be aiming to add more silverware in what has been a historic and memorable season for the club. Kick-off is 2pm.
