Sections of the A595 will be closed overnight from the end of this month for improvement work.
Contractors are due to start work on the road from Holmrook to Muncaster on Monday September 30.
The work will be carried out in three phases and is part of a £14.3 million Government-funded programme to enhance infrastructure and reduce future disruptions.
Work will include road network repairs, drainage replacement, traffic sign replacement and refreshing of road markings. The work will last for around seven weeks, weather permitting.
The works will be carried out in three phases:
- Phase 1: Holmrook to Ravenglass junction – Monday September 30 to Friday October 25
- Phase 2: Ravenglass junction to Muncaster Castle – Monday November 4 to Tuesday November 12
- Phase 3: Holmrook and Drigg junction – Wednesday November 13 to Tuesday November 19
The road will be closed from 7pm and 5am, Mondays to Saturdays, for the duration of the project, except during the October half-term holiday – from Monday October 28 to Friday November 1.
From 5am to 7pm, two-way traffic lights will be in operation.
Overnight, vehicles may pass through the site with escort assistance from 7pm to 10pm, though delays of up to 30 minutes may occur.
From 10pm to 5am, the road will be fully closed to vehicles, though pedestrian access will be maintained.
The work will be carried out by contractor, DSD Construction Limited on behalf of Cumberland Council.
Access for emergency vehicles under blue lights and pedestrians will be maintained at all times.
