
Four people have been arrested on the first day of a police campaign to crack down on factors which can cause collisions.
Called the Fatal Four, the actions are speeding, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not wearing a seatbelt and driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs.
Cumbria police said its officers had been on the roads to take action against those putting other road users’ safety at risk.
Yesterday, police said they had arrested four people:
- A 33-year-old man was stopped shortly after midnight in Ennerdale Road in Cleator Moor and arrested on suspicion of drug-driving. Daniel Bullock, of High Park Caravan Park, Oxenholme, is due to appear at Workington Magistrates’ Court on October 8.
- A 23-year-old man from the Carlisle area was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving at around midnight after being stopped in Main Street in Shap.
He was released under investigation while officers continue with their enquiries, including the results of blood tests. - A 21-year-old man from London was stopped on Bridge Street in Penrith in the early hours of Monday, subjected to a drugs wipe and arrested. He was released under investigation while officers continue with their enquiries, including the results of blood tests.
- A 27-year-old man from the Salterbeck area in Workington was stopped on the A66 at Cockermouth in the early hours of Monday and arrested on suspicion of drug-driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. He was released under investigation whilst officers continue with their enquiries, including the results of blood tests.
