
Holders Workington Reds are comfortably through to the second round of the Fred Conway County Cup.
They beat the County League side Mirehouse 5-0 to make progress as they try to win the competition for a third year in a row.
Manager Mark Fell took a look at some of his fringe players and also a couple from the Development side and will have been well satisfied with the overall result and performance.
Reds had the tonic of an early goal with defender Tyler Beck staying up for a corner and thumping a good left foot volley past the Mirehouse keeper.
It stayed 1-0 until five minutes before the interval when Preston loanee Kaedyn Kamara rounded off a good passage of play by drilling home the second.
The tie was really taken away from Mirehouse with three quick goals early in the second-half. Reds struck in the 47th, 50th and 52nd minutes to take complete control.
Kamara got his second when his deep free kick from 35 yards evaded everyone and finished in the net.
Ben McCarron raced onto a Brad Hubbold pass to score the fourth and Sam Christian rounded it off with a nicely taken fifth.
Mirehouse battled on bravely and did hit the bar but Workington kept a clean sheet, and now await the second round draw.
Reds boss Mark Fell said he was pleased with the performance and thought the youngsters from the Development side had done well which was encouraging.
But he had a special word for Preston loanee Kaedyn Kamara who scored two goals.
“He was exceptional, and that’s why he’s a professional. He wanted to play and he was all over the place, setting a great example,” said Fell.
