An event to showcase support on offer in South Cumbria for people living with dementia and their families will be held next week.
Active Minds, Healthy Hearts: A Dementia Care Event, will take place on Thursday, October 10, at Barrow Leisure Centre.
Organised by St Mary’s Hospice, the event takes place from 1pm to 4pm and will highlight the benefits of sports, movement, and mindfulness.
It will feature a variety of activities and demonstrations designed to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being for those living with dementia.
People will have the opportunity to take part in sessions, including gentle exercise classes, mindfulness workshops, and sports activities tailored to all ability levels.
Key highlights of the event include:
- Exercise and movement sessions: Learn about the positive impact of physical activity on cognitive health through tailored exercise routines.
- Mindfulness and relaxation workshops: Discover techniques to enhance mental well-being and reduce stress.
- Support and information stalls: Connect with local organisations and experts offering valuable resources and support for dementia care.
“We are excited to host this event as part of Hospice Care Week, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of holistic care and social connection for individuals with dementia,” said Sophie Ayeche, Admiral Nurse Dementia Specialist at St. Mary’s Hospice.
“Our goal is to demonstrate how sports, movement, and mindfulness can significantly improve quality of life and empower those living with dementia and their families.”
Admission is free, and refreshments will be provided.
