Thursday night saw the first of three trails to take place at Seaton, organised by local trailer Tony Irving, supported by Gary Woodend and Andrew Bulman.

Everyone had done a great job in checking the trail and clearing the ground to make it easy for the hounds to complete the course.

This entails a lot of work which takes place behind the scene so well done to everyone for getting the trails on.

Usually it’s pouring with rain when there are trails at Seaton but it was a bright, but cold evening with no rain in sight for a change and the turnout was good with the hounds getting things underway with a slip of 15 hounds.

The Dearham kennel of Joseph Abram and Nicola McMaster had both their good hounds out in the senior race, Silver Dream and Silver Streak. In the bookies ring Silver Dream was 5/4 without Silver Streak and Mel.

Outside the dogs were cracking on and were soon back on the finish. Once on the long run in from the windmills it was Graham Reid’s Strawberry Mick who was leading from Silver Dream.

Once on the home run there was nothing going to head him, not even the fast finish of Silver Dream. As they came through the last gate he had a good lead and won easily with Ellie Napier only just arriving on the trail field to help the Reid brothers shout their hounds in.

Silver Dream finished in second place with Mel finishing in third place. Silver Streak, who had been the fancied runner having won trails at Seaton both as a pup and as a senior hound, finished in fourth place.

Foxparke Beep Beep ran a good race and made ground up on the second half of the trail to take fifth while Graham Reid’s other hound Money Talks finished in sixth place.

The pups were next to slip with 14 runners and the leading hounds among them. Table leader Huntsman’s Time and kennel mate Huntsman’s Trouble were running along with Minnie Million and Thornton.

Minnie Million was evens in the bookies ring with Thornton at 2/1 and Huntsman’s Time 7/2 with Huntsman’s Trouble at 4/1.

Once across the last road and heading towards the finish it was Minnie Million who was leading followed closely by Huntsman’s Trouble and Thornton.

Once through the last gate it was a great race and Minnie Million looked as though she just needed to come in and win but Huntsman’s Trouble came from third place to just pip her on the line by a short head.

Huntsman’s Time stayed on to get third ticket for Denise making it first and third for her team with Thornton finishing in fourth place for Darren McMaster, Anthony Skelton and Sadie Wilson. Gillian Bulman-Brown and Mickey O’Brien’s Peggy Sue finished in fifth place with Lana and Debbie McGee’s Apache Chief taking sixth.

The last race of the night was the open restricted race with a slip of 12 runners. In the bookies ring Paddy The Plasterer and Samcro, both for Tanya Satterthwaite, were in the box and the punters were betting without these two.

Kinniside Jacko was 5/2 along with Foxparke Side Kick, while Foxparke Sassy Girl was at 2/1 with Foxparke Fair Lady at 6/4.

On the run-in there were plenty of dogs in with a chance and once through the last gate it was down to three who were together.

It was Foxparke Side Kick who just came through to win after Adele made a mistake on the last fence having fallen back but she still manged to get second place for Sarah Bell.

The Napier and Butler kennel also claimed third place with Foxparke Fair Lady followed by Tanya’s Samcro and then Christine Brownlee’s Malia.

The last ticket of the night went to Foxparke Sassy Girl. All in all it had been a good night for trailing.

Action moves down to Wasdale today where Wasdale Head Show hosts four trails, with the first one getting underway at 1pm.

Then on Sunday trailing returns to Seaton with a four race meeting with all the trails being sponsored by Woodend Roofling Limited so a big thank you to them for their generosity and for supporting the local sport. The first trail at Seaton starts at 1pm.
