
The Benevolent Cup made a return in the Cumberland County League with two fixtures in round one on Saturday.
Unisun Athletic Youth Development scored a 5-0 victory against Whitehaven Miners Social Development with David Nelson helping himself to a hat trick and Jameslee Reynolds adding the other two.
Premier Division outfit Cockermouth earned a 3-1 win against Windscale Reserves from the Division below to send them into the next round. Sam Wright, Kyran Bertram and an own goal provided Cockermouth with the victory. Sam Branney was the Windscale goal scorer.
In the Premier Division, Sam Irving, Carl Lightfoot and Louie Elliot all netted for Wigton Harriers to secure a 3-1 win against Aspatria, with their reply coming courtesy of Andrew Trestianu.
The match between champions Maryport Athletic and Unisun Athletic ended in a 2-2 draw. Ellis Short and Callum Casson found the back of the net for Maryport and the Unisun goals came from Josh Morley and Tom McDonald.
In Division One, Bransty Rangers extended their lead at the top of the table with a 4-1 victory against Dearham United. Spike Canavan provided two of those goals with the others coming from Lewis McCartney and a Liam O’Pray penalty. Alfie Green netted for Dearham.
Elsewhere, Mirehouse earned themselves a 5-2 win against Cockermouth Reserves to take them second in the table. Nicky McAllister (2), Kyle Bailiff, Ryan Smith and Jack Burns provided the goals for Mirehouse. Troy Paterson bagged himself a brace for Cockermouth.
Whitehaven AFC Reserves were 4-2 winners against Silloth thanks to goals from Robbie Watson, Shane Tyson, Keenan Mackay and Liam King. Jackson Slack and Matt Scott were on the score-sheet for Silloth.
