Wath Brow A have proved themselves the top team in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland League by completing a full house of trophies.
A 34-8 victory over Maryport on their own Ghiel Park pitch provided them with the Top Four final winners trophy to add to the Firpress Printers Cumberland Cup, the EB Lamb Amateur Cup and the League Championship trophy.
It was an historic achievement by the Wath Brow second string, the first A team to win the league, never mind go on and win the lot.
Maryport, who had taken the League title race to a play-off, had to fill the role of gallant runners-up again and in another year might have been looking at a couple of trophies themselves.
They were in this one for around an hour but then injuries and lack of replacements started to take a toll and the Brow ran out comfortable winners.

Maryport had actually taken the lead on six minutes with a penalty goal from Liam Anderson and it was an advantage they held until the 15th minute.
Peter Caddy went over for the first Hornets try and then on 30 minutes another of their ‘senior citizens’ Luke Davison crossed for a second.
It was still 8-2 at the break and anybody’s game.

It was certainly game on two minutes into the second-half when Carl Steele crossed for Maryport and Carl Foster converted to level the score.
But before the Allerdale side could muster another head of steam Wath Brow had regained the lead with a try by Jamie Devine which Greg Rooney converted.

It was still nip and tuck and a reflection of how tight it was getting when Rooney opted to put over a simple penalty on the hour to give the Brow added insurance.
They didn’t need it, however, as in the last ten minutes they ran in further tries from Rhomen Alick (2) and Daley Stables, converted by Rooney to put daylight between themselves and battling Maryport.

Cumbrisa Crack’s John Walsh asked the two coaches Paul Farrell (Wath Brow) and Mark Foster (Maryport) for their thoughts and you can hear them below:
