Former Cumberland all-rounder Liam Livingstone is to skipperĀ England during their white-ball tour of West Indies.
The 31-year-old Barrow-born Livingstone takes charge after Jos Buttler suffered a setback in his recovery from a calf injury.
Buttler, 34, has not played since the T20 World Cup in June and will miss the three one-day internationals in the Caribbean.
However, Buttler is expected to have recovered to lead England in the five-match T20 series that follows.
Lancashire star Livingstone will lead England for the first time in the ODI series in Buttler’s absence.
In a strange twist, Livingstone had been initially left out of the ODI squad to play Australia last month but was then summoned to replace the injured Buttler.
The all-rounder, part of England’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2022, has captained Lancashire in the T20 Blast and Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.
Livingstone played 12 times in the Knockout Trophy for Cumberland between 2009 and 2013.
He cored 228 runs, top score 62 and had an average of 32.57. He took six wickets but at a cost of 40.44.
He only played four Minor Counties Championship games in 2011 with 195 runs, top score 66 and an average of 32.50.
His best bowling in the Championship was 5-59 and he had an average of 32.40.
